How Can New Jersey Increase Its Online Poker Revenue in 2025?

2024 was a big year for those interested in statistics for online poker sites in New Jersey. There had been plenty of speculation about who were the top online operators in the state but no details available.

That changed in April 2024 when the Division of Gaming Enforcement introduced a new way of presenting their revenue reports. They wanted to “increase transparency” so gave figures for each individual operator.

December 2024 saw online poker record revenue of $2.437 million. That was the highest total since July but below the figure of $2.635 recorded that month.

According to New Jersey Bet, only five online poker sites contribute to the total, namely: BetMGM Poker, Borgata, PokerStars, PartyPoker and World Series of Poker.com (WSOP.com NJ). In December 2024, each recorded a higher revenue total than in November aside from WSOP.com who dropped from $732,658 to $641,842.

There has been a change in which online poker site in New Jersey is earning the most revenue. WSOP.com recorded a figure of $1,088,422 in July and $974,153 in October. That October total saw them well clear at the top of the revenue earners, just over $400,000 higher than PokerStars.

However, that lead had disappeared by the end of the year with PokerStars ahead by $43,066 in December. PokerStars totalled $684,908 in December, though they had gone through the $700,000 mark in both July and September.

BetMGM Poker made huge strides in the final months of 2024. From a total of $319,028 in October, their revenue total climbed to $501,736 in December.

One way in which BetMGM Poker has increased its revenue figures is the offering of online satellite packages. Players are able to go onto their site and win a place at a major poker event in either Borgata NJ in Atlantic City or a casino in Las Vegas.

The possibility of staying in a hotel for free with some spending money available and going to a VIP party attracts many players to their site.

Borgata have also been increasing their revenue in recent months. Their total was only $302,651 in October but up to $415,246 two months later.

PartyPoker is still lagging behind the other four online poker sites. Their December total was $194,226 but a good improvement on the $140,147 in September.

It was in 2013 that New Jersey made online poker legal but one concern in recent years is that there hasn’t been the huge growth that sports betting and other areas of online casinos have achieved. Just as vaudeville went downhill once television arrived, online poker has struggled to cope with the competition that sports betting and online casinos have provided.

Poker is still massively popular as has been illustrated by the popularity of WSOP.com NJ events, both in the numbers watching and entering tournaments. One way that online poker could start to boom again is if more US states made online poker legal.

Increasing the amounts that can be won playing online poker would also stimulate interest. Currently in New Jersey, WSOP.com and PokerStars both share pools with other states. WSOP.com shares a pool with both Nevada and Michigan. For PokerStars and BetMGM Poker, it’s just Michigan that they share a pool with. The future may see pools being shared with Pennsylvania.

Improved marketing is also likely to see online poker revenue figures for New Jersey rise. Forming links with influencers and online streamers can help towards achieving this. There are plenty of celebrities who enjoy playing poker, so linking up with them is another important step that can be taken. Doing so can see online poker introduced to a more diverse and younger audience.

Poker isn’t the most straightforward of games to learn to play. Producing tutorial videos is one way of attracting new players to online poker. The more people learn about poker, then the more likely they are to register with and start playing at sites.

Delaware and West Virginia are also part of the Multi-State Internet Gaming Agreement. However, they do not yet have live poker platforms but it’ll be good news when they do. More sharing of pools will see even larger amounts being able to be won. All of which should produce a boost for online poker sites in New Jersey.
